In our first edition of Archetype webinars, a series of knowledge sharing sessions on subjects of interest, we gathered a panel of diverse experts from the automobile and allied industry, to discuss the future of mobility in the post COVID-19 era, with an emphasis on connected autonomous vehicles.
An interesting discussion, wherein the many voices were together in affirming a firm future of connected mobility even as they debated the various aspects of implementation and changes for the ecosystem. Interestingly one of the panellist perhaps best summed it by saying
“The automotive industry from an electronics standpoint today is where mobile phone industry was 20 years ago. We are at the cusp of taking off.”
This was further corroborated by the panel when they espoused, “Post COVID-19, from the CASE acronym, what will find greater relevance in India will be connected vehicles. There are many challenges to adoption, but most importantly what we need to solve for is how are we addressing the customers problem”. This brought to the fore, “COVID19 has accelerated the need for connected automotive experiences, and that will continue to accelerate.”
The panel agreed the automotive ecosystem will see new contours of the emerging mobility ecosystem propelled by a series of changes in the macroeconomic environment, regulatory trends, technology, and consumer behaviours. These could have a lasting effect on mobility even while trends may vary by region, as will the calibrated approach around responses and outcomes for mobility players across locations.
India’s automotive industry today is poised to leapfrog as it harnesses the power of connectivity to drive home newer applications, use cases and better efficiencies to aid businesses harness the opportunities emerging out of the current challenging situation. Adoption and catalysing change to drive business efficiency, safety and the emerging needs around social distancing, contact less delivery, last mile connectivity, efficient operations will need technology proliferation and innovation.
Sectoral resilience, speed of innovation, ability to jump technology generations, and unique applications of CASE in India will see unique solutions getting delivered. The ecosystem is already leveraging and building for the connected future, be it supply chain, service capabilities, buying or manufacturing vehicles. Its only a question of how soon the ecosystem matures to help India earn its place within the connected mobility landscape.
